Resizing Questions Answered
Everything you need to know about resizing images with Pixly.
How do I resize an image without losing quality?
When resizing, use our smart scaling algorithm which preserves sharpness and detail. For downscaling (making images smaller), quality is generally well-preserved. For upscaling (making images larger), some softening may occur — use our AI Image Upscaler tool for best results when enlarging.
Can I resize images to specific dimensions in pixels?
Yes. You can enter exact width and height in pixels, or use percentage scaling. You can also lock the aspect ratio to prevent distortion, or unlock it to stretch freely. Common preset dimensions for social media platforms are also included.
What are the best image sizes for social media?
Instagram posts: 1080×1080px (square), 1080×1350px (portrait). Facebook posts: 1200×630px. Twitter/X posts: 1200×675px. YouTube thumbnails: 1280×720px. Our Social Media Photo Resizer tool includes all these presets and more, ready to use with one click.
Can I resize multiple images at once?
Yes! Drop multiple images and resize them all to the same dimensions in one batch. This is perfect for creating consistent product catalogs, gallery thumbnails, or social media content sets. All processing happens locally in your browser.
What happens to the aspect ratio when I resize?
By default, the aspect ratio is locked — when you change the width, the height adjusts proportionally (and vice versa). You can unlock this to set custom width and height independently, though this may distort the image. We recommend keeping the ratio locked unless you specifically need non-proportional sizing.
Does resizing change the file format?
No. Your resized image is exported in the same format as the original. If you need to convert formats (e.g., PNG to JPG), use our Image Converter tool after resizing. You can also choose the output format during the resize process.
