We believe your images should never leave your device

Pixly was born from a simple idea: powerful image editing shouldn't require uploading your photos to someone else's server. We built a suite of AI-powered tools that run entirely in your browser — no uploads, no tracking, no compromise.

From frustration to freedom

In 2023, our founders were frustrated with the state of online image tools. Every platform required uploads, charged expensive subscriptions for basic features, and offered no real privacy guarantees. Sensitive photos were being processed on remote servers with unclear retention policies.

We knew there was a better way. Modern browsers are incredibly capable — with WebAssembly, WebGL, and on-device ML models, we realized that nearly every common image operation could run locally, without ever sending a single byte to the cloud.

Pixly launched with a single tool: a background remover that ran 100% in the browser. Within months, we added upscaling, compression, format conversion, and batch processing — all following the same principle. Your images stay yours.

Our core values

The principles that guide every feature we build and every decision we make.

Privacy by Default

Your images never leave your device. No uploads, no server-side processing, no data retention. What happens in your browser stays in your browser.

Speed Matters

We optimize every tool for sub-second processing. No waiting for uploads, no queue, no render times. Instant results, every time.

Accessible to All

Professional-grade tools shouldn't cost a fortune. Every tool on Pixly is completely free — no subscriptions, no hidden fees, no limits.

Always Innovating

We're constantly exploring new browser APIs and ML techniques to bring more powerful tools to the web — without sacrificing privacy.

Milestones that shaped us

2023 — Q1

The Idea

Frustrated with privacy-invasive image tools, our founders set out to build a browser-native alternative.

2023 — Q3

First Tool Launched

Background Remover goes live — the first 100% client-side AI background removal tool on the web.

2024 — Q1

1 Million Users

Pixly crosses the 1M user mark. We add upscaling, compression, and format conversion tools.

2024 — Q4

Batch Processing & More

Added batch processing, 4K upscaling, and more AI tools — all still client-side, all still free.

2025 — Present

2M+ Users & Growing

Today, Pixly serves millions of users worldwide. We're just getting started — new tools launch every month.

Technology behind Pixly

We leverage cutting-edge browser APIs to deliver server-grade image processing — entirely on your device.

WebAssembly

We compile native image processing libraries to WebAssembly, enabling near-native performance for complex operations like upscaling and compression — all running in your browser tab.

WebGL & Canvas

GPU-accelerated rendering via WebGL allows us to process images in real-time. Filters, adjustments, and effects run on your graphics card for instant visual feedback.

On-Device ML Models

Our AI tools use TensorFlow.js and ONNX Runtime Web to run machine learning models directly in your browser. No data is sent to any server — the model comes to your device, not your image to the model.

Privacy-First Architecture

No backend image processing. No upload servers. No analytics on your photos. Our architecture is designed so that your data physically cannot leave your device through Pixly.

About FAQ

Common questions about Pixly and how we operate.

Is Pixly really 100% free?

Yes. Every tool on Pixly is completely free with no usage limits, no watermarks, and no hidden fees. We're supported by an optional Pro tier for power users who want batch processing of more than 50 images and priority support — but the core tools will always be free.

How can Pixly process images without uploading them?

Modern browsers support WebAssembly, WebGL, and on-device machine learning through APIs like TensorFlow.js. These technologies allow us to run native-grade image processing and AI models entirely within your browser tab. Your images never need to be uploaded because all the processing happens locally on your device.

Do you track or collect any data?

We collect minimal anonymous analytics — page views and tool usage counts — to understand which tools are popular. We do not track your identity, we do not use cookies for advertising, and we never see, store, or have access to your images. You can opt out of analytics at any time.

What browsers and devices are supported?

Pixly works on all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. For AI tools, we recommend Chrome or Edge for the best WebGPU support. Pixly works on desktop and mobile, though some heavy AI tools may perform better on devices with more RAM and a dedicated GPU.

Are you open source?

Our core image processing libraries are open source and available on GitHub. The main Pixly application is not fully open source, but we contribute back to the open-source projects we rely on, including TensorFlow.js, Real-ESRGAN, and various WebAssembly image libraries.

How can I support Pixly?

You can support us by spreading the word, following us on Twitter and GitHub, reporting bugs, suggesting new tools, and considering the optional Pro subscription. Every bit helps us keep the core tools free and build new ones.
