Privacy Policy
Your privacy is our foundation. Pixly processes all images locally in your browser — they never touch our servers. This policy explains what limited data we do collect and how we handle it.
Last updated: August 1, 2025
Overview
Pixly is a privacy-first image processing platform. Our core promise is simple: your images never leave your browser. All image processing — background removal, upscaling, compression, format conversion, and batch processing — happens entirely client-side using WebAssembly, Canvas API, and on-device ML models. Your photos are never uploaded to, stored on, or processed by our servers.
This Privacy Policy describes the limited types of data we do collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your information.
Data We Collect
Because Pixly processes images locally, we collect minimal data. The information we may collect includes:
- Account information: Pixly does not require an account. If you contact us, we may retain your email address to respond to your inquiry.
- Usage analytics: We collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics such as which tools are used most frequently, page visit counts, and approximate geographic region (country-level). This data is not linked to your identity.
- Technical data: Browser type, operating system, and screen resolution — collected automatically to optimize the user experience.
- Contact communications: If you email us or submit a form, we retain the content of your message and your email address to respond to your inquiry.
What we do NOT collect: We do not collect, store, or transmit your images, EXIF metadata from your images, or any data derived from processing your images. All image data stays in your browser's memory and is discarded when you close the tab.
How We Use Your Data
We use the limited data we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain the Pixly service
- To improve our tools, features, and user experience based on aggregated usage patterns
- To respond to your support requests, feedback, and inquiries
- To send important service notifications (e.g., maintenance, policy changes) — we never send marketing emails without your consent
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or abuse
Data Storage
Your account and usage data is stored on secure servers hosted in the European Union. All data in transit is encrypted using TLS 1.3. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. We retain account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days.
Image data: Images are never stored. They exist only in your browser's memory during processing and are automatically cleared when you navigate away or close the tab. We have no servers that receive or store image files.
Cookies & Tracking
Pixly uses minimal cookies and local storage:
- Theme preference: Stored in localStorage to remember your light/dark mode choice
- Session token: If you're logged in, a secure HTTP-only cookie maintains your session
- Analytics cookie: An anonymous analytics cookie tracks page views (no personal data)
We do not use tracking pixels, cross-site tracking, or advertising cookies. You can clear cookies at any time through your browser settings.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Cloudflare: CDN and DDoS protection. Cloudflare may log IP addresses for security purposes. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Plausible: Privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics. No personal data or cross-site tracking. See Plausible's Privacy Policy.
We never sell, rent, or share your data with advertising networks or data brokers.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Right to data portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Right to object: Object to processing of your data for specific purposes
- Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw consent for any processing based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@pixly.app. We respond to all requests within 30 days.
